As a member-driven organization, one of the valuable resources the BIA provides is representation in government at the federal, state and municipal levels. This is accomplished through the BIA Government Relations Office, with guidance from your Government Relations Committee (GRC). The GRC meets regularly and is "staffed" by your colleagues: BIA members who have a personal and professional interest in responsive, efficient government. The GRC considers important issues of the day, and how best to address them through research, meetings with legislators and appointed officials, correspondence, petition, and testimony. BIA-HAWAII NEEDS YOU! Elected and appointed officials respond best to you, as constituents and businesspeople in one of Hawaii's core industries. Because of this, your GRC is always looking for enthusiastic volunteers to help monitor government and encourage industry-friendly laws and services. Your experience and time will help us identify and research critical issues and develop the BIA's position on each, then lobby effectively for the result we need as an industry. In recent months, your GRC has worked on many issues that affect your bottom line and the amount and type of work available to you as a businessperson. They're listed below, so look them over and consider joining us as we continue to advocate for your interests in government. Then join our hard-working GRC, and make Uncle Sam work for YOU for a change. Contact the BIA Government Relations office at 847-4666 (x2), or government@bia-hawaii.com if you'd like to contribute your experience to our effort. Mahalo-- we hope to hear from you soon! Proposed bills on early payment to subcontractors--please review and comment:
